Discover the Hidden Gems of Nørrebro!

For centuries, migration has been a cornerstone of European societies, shaping cities and their cultural landscapes. While often overlooked in traditional urban narratives, the stories of migrants are deeply embedded in the streets of European cities, waiting to be uncovered.

About Migrantour: Celebrating Cultural Diversity

Migrantour is a European solidarity project designed to highlight the cultural diversity of European cities through guided intercultural walks. Led by guides with a migrant background, these tours offer unique perspectives and personal stories about each city.

Originally launched in 2011 by the ACRA Foundation in Italy, Migrantour was created to promote a new kind of tourism—one that is personal, sustainable, and community-based. Over the years, Migrantour has expanded to 20 cities across Europe, including Barcelona, Brussels, Lisbon, Ljubljana, and Utrecht, and since 2021, in Copenhagen.

A Tour through History and Diversity

Copenhagen Migrantour is co-created by migrant citizens and coordinated by Crossing Borders. The tour primarily explores Nørrebro, a vibrant and multicultural district that has been home to many generations of migrants. The itinerary includes stops at Union (home to Crossing Borders), the DIA Arabic School, Queen Louise’s Bridge, Blågårds Plads, and concludes at Folkets Park. Each location offers insights into the contributions of migrants to Copenhagen’s cultural, economic, and social fabric.

Nørrebro’s history reflects complex social dynamics, including periods of resistance and community organizing, with its vibrant food scene and local businesses highlighting the area’s rich cultural contributions. Copenhagen Migrantour connects locals and tourists, fostering a deeper understanding of the city’s multicultural heritage while empowering individuals to share their stories and claim their place in the cultural narrative.
